I. General provisions

We inform you in the following about the processing of your personal data in the context of usage of the Global Preferences Survey website.

II. Use of cookies

1. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your hard disk in the browser you use which allow certain information to be transmitted to the person which placed the cookie (ourselves in this case). Cookies cannot run any programs or transmit viruses to your computer. These serve the purpose of making the internet service more user friendly and effective as a whole.

2. This website uses the "laravel_session" cookie. This cookie stores a so-called session ID with which various enquiries by your browser can be assigned to the joint session. This makes it possible to recognise your computer again when you return to our website. We also use a cookie named CSRF_TOKEN, which is used to prevent malicious attacks on the website. The session cookies are deleted when you close the browser.

   You can configure your browser settings as you desire and for instance reject third party cookies or all cookies. We should note that you might not be able to use all of this website's functions, however.

3. The legal basis for the use of cookies is Art. 6 (1) (1) (f) of the General Data Protection Regulation: The use of session cookies is in the legitimate interest of the responsible parties because this improves usability of the information provided as well as its technical security. With regard to the use of Google Analytics, there is a legitimate interest on the part of those responsible parties because this allows the range and user behaviour to be recorded and analysed. This is important to designing the Internet service.

III. Use of the download portal

1. We process your personal data within the framework of the download service for the GPS Dataset and GPS Questionnaires. When you download the GPS dataset or one or more GPS Questionnaire, you conclude a license agreement (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/). Your personal data is processed to monitor compliance with the license agreement. This specifically involves the following categories of personal data:
   • Your identification data (first name, last name, title)
   • Your e-mail address
   • The name of your organisation

2. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1) (1) (f) of the General Data Protection Regulation. Because it is otherwise not possible for us to monitor the agreement, the mandatory information requested is a precondition for downloading.

3. Your personal data is stored as long as this is necessary to monitor the agreement. The information shall in any case be deleted after the expiry of a period of 20 years.

IV. Rights of data subjects

1. You have the right on your own initiative to access, modify, delete, supplement or update your personal data. You have the right to obtain your data in machine readable format. You have the right to object to the processing of your data. If you object to this, the controller is no longer allowed to process your personal data unless the controller demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override the interests, rights and freedoms of the data subject or processing serves the purpose of establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

3. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
